Atlante is pleased to announce that the teams of Aix Marseille University have moved into the last building delivered since the beginning of March on the site of the Luminy Campus in Marseille.
A social infrastructure project with energy performance commitments
In April 2016, the Aix Marseille University and the Luscie project compagny made up of teams from Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est, Bouygues Energies & Services and Atlante Gestion signed a partnership contracts as part of the restructuring and implementation of energy efficiency work on a set of existing buildings and university spaces on the Luminy Campus site.
The contract includes a number of commitments regarding the quality and thermal performance of the buildings, the implementation of efficient operations, preventive maintenant, as well as raising user awareness of the site’s energy consumption.
The project has been in the operating phase since the end of October 2020, when the last building was delivered by Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est teams.
Three university buildings renovated to give the campus a new look
Over a period of four and a half years, Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est and its partners carried out renovation and modernization work on more than 33,000 square metres of buildings. This was a real challenge when you consider that the site was occupied by more than 12,000 people every day !
The site can now accomodate its students, researchers, teachers and administrative teams in optimal working conditions Bouygues Energies & Services teams will now begin their 25-years building maintenance mission.
Thanks to this project the Luminy science campus is potisionning itself as one of the leaders in the field of education in its region.
How does methanization work ?
Methanization is a phenomenon that produces biogas energy, through the decomposition and fermentation of organic matter. This natural process is due to the action of micro-organisms that digest organic matter. The digestion occurs naturally in certain environments, for example in marshes.
It can also be reproduced by human action, by heating and stirring the organic matter in hermetic enclosures called digesters with total absence of contact with oxygen. The process must be controlled at all times in terms of temperature and pressure, and lasts from 20 to 40 days. Methanization is used for energy production and sale, and also provides a natural and organic amendment for agriculture: the digestate.
The biogas produced by methanation is a 100% renewable energy, which contains between 40 and 60% methane (CH4) for almost as much carbon dioxide (CO2).
